Community screening of 'Dance Everywhere', a 60-minute anthology of original experimental animation by Minneapolis artists Dane Cree and Woodlin Latocki, from Hellavision Television.
The Main Cinema is hosting Dance Everywhere on Wednesday, October 21, a community screening of an animation anthology put together by Minneapolis artists Dane Cree and Woodlin Latocki. It runs from 7 PM to 8:30 PM, and the program itself is 60 minutes of original experimental animation.
The prompt for this one is Dance Everywhere: animators were asked to dance in an unexpected location, let the surroundings choreograph their movement, and then use animation to transform that dance into something impossible. It's a simple enough idea that opens up a lot of different directions, so you'll see a variety of ways artists took that starting point and ran with it.
Dance Everywhere comes from Hellavision Television, a participatory animation anthology that's been running in Minneapolis since 2017. Twice a year they put out a call for submissions, and artists have five weeks to complete a short. The results are non-curated, which means makers get to screen their work regardless of skill level. The finished program usually runs between 40 and 90 minutes, and this screening is part of MSP Film's Community Screen initiative, a platform for public screenings at The Main Cinema organized by local artists, neighbors, partners, and businesses.
