Retro screening of the 1995 comedy Friday with pre-movie trivia hosted by Jeff Pariseau at The Parkway Theater.
The Parkway Theater is bringing Friday back to the big screen on Wednesday, November 18, with a pre-movie trivia session hosted by Jeff Pariseau. The screening runs from 8 PM to 10:30 PM in south Minneapolis.
If you've seen Friday a dozen times, you know the setup: Craig Jones, played by Ice Cube, gets fired for stealing cardboard boxes just as rent is due. From there, the day only gets more chaotic. He clashes with his overbearing girlfriend Joi and deals with his best friend Smokey, played by Chris Tucker, who owes money to a local drug dealer—and all of that happens before lunch. It's a movie that works as well as a casual watch as it does as a crowd-pleaser, and seeing it in a theater is a different experience than catching it on a TV.
The trivia comes first, so you'll want to arrive early if you're planning to play along. Jeff Pariseau is hosting the pre-show, and it's a good chance to test your knowledge of the movie before the film itself rolls. The Parkway is a vintage performing arts venue and movie theater in south Minneapolis that still shows classic films on 35mm alongside live music and comedy. It's also become home to local traditions like the annual bluegrass celebration of The High 48s and the all-star Tom Petty tribute Petty Comes Alive.
