Performance by the 16-piece Cedar Avenue Big Band, a Minneapolis ensemble with 35 years of history, at Jazz Central Studios.
Cedar Avenue Big Band plays Jazz Central Studios on Tuesday, November 10, from 8:30 to 10:30 PM. It's a full 16-piece ensemble, so you're getting a proper big band on stage rather than a smaller combo. The show is presented in part by MRAC.
There's some real history behind this one. The band has been playing together for 35 years, and they started under the musical direction of arranger and composer Steve Devich. Over those three and a half decades, they've built up a library of more than 450 big band charts, so they've got plenty to pull from for a set. Their discography includes the 2003 release Land of 10,000 Licks.
Jazz Central Studios is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that works to strengthen the Twin Cities jazz community through performances, workshops, and educational programs. The venue is in the Old St. Anthony neighborhood on the west bank of the Mississippi. They also stream their shows live every Friday and Saturday night, and select Thursdays, from 8 to 9:30 PM.
