Film screening of Teton Gravity Research's documentary on big-mountain skiing, with a Q&A, at the vintage Parkway Theater.
Teton Gravity Research brings its latest film, Actually, It Is Rocket Science, to The Parkway Theater on Sunday, October 18. It's a big-mountain skiing documentary that treats the fall line like a laboratory and every descent like an experiment. The footage pulls from Jackson Hole and Haines to British Columbia, Japan, Finland, Andorra, Montana and Jay Peak, and the athletes spend as much time dissecting the physics of the sport—speed, gravity, instinct, transitions and consequence—as they do actually skiing it. It's a tongue-in-cheek look at the precision behind the massive lines, gaps and high-speed descents that usually just look reckless from the couch.
That precision comes from a heavy-hitting roster: Kelly Hilleke, Teal Harle, Colter Hinchliffe, Kai Jones, Maggie Voisin, Nick McNutt, Parkin Costain and Karl Fostvedt. TGR has been defining ski and snowboard filmmaking for over 30 years, and this one is billed as featuring world-class athletes and breathtaking cinematography. It's an all-ages screening, so it works as a family outing as much as a night out for anyone who follows the sport.
