Educational physics demonstration show with live experiments, including atmospheric pressure and pipe organ music, designed for all ages.
Physics Force returns to the Carlson Family Stage at Northrop on Saturday, January 16, 2027, for two shows—one at 11 AM and another at 2 PM. It's a collaboration between the UMN College of Science & Engineering and Northrop, and the whole thing is built around big, live demonstrations that lean on the fun and the wow factor of science. The shows are meant for all ages and knowledge levels, so you don't need a background in physics to get what's happening.
As for what actually happens on stage, the demonstrations are the main event. You'll see physicists dropping from the air and barrels imploding from the power of atmospheric pressure. There's also a bit that brings in Northrop's historic pipe organ to illustrate the connection between science and music, which is a nice way to tie the venue's own character into the show. The goal is to make physics and science accessible and exciting, and the demonstrations are the way they do it.
