Live set by Italian-English jazz pianist Thomas Umbaca at The Jazz Social, part of the EFG London Jazz Festival.
Thomas Umbaca plays The Jazz Social on Wednesday 11 November, as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival. He's an Italian-English pianist, composer and producer who splits his time between Milano and Malmö, and the show is a solo one.
Umbaca comes to classical and jazz studies under internationally renowned musicians, and from there he's built a sound that blends instrumental vocals, synths and percussion. He's opened for Alabaster DePlume, Shabaka Hutchings, Antonio Sanchez and Penguin Cafe, and he works as much in film as on record. He's composed and produced original soundtracks for Miriam - Il diario (2015), Il Terribile Inganno and Dov'è la Fiesta? (2026).
His second album, Waiting for Music to Surprise me Again, came out in March 2026 on Ponderosa Music Records, co-produced with Amedeo Pace of the NYC band Blonde Redhead. It's the record he's touring now, so the set will lean on that material. The show is part of the EFG London Jazz Festival, and the venue is a pop-up space with mixed standing and seated room and limited first-come-first-served seating.
