Live concert by Teenage Fanclub at Hackney Church in Lower Clapton.
Teenage Fanclub are playing Hackney Church on Friday 6 November, their only London date this autumn. It's a standalone show, with the Scottish trio as the sole name on the bill, so the whole night belongs to them.
If you've followed them since the early days, you know the sound they've built around these three voices: the harmonies, the clean guitars, and the sort of melodic songwriting that sits comfortably between 60s pop and the indie rock that followed. They've spent decades working within that territory, and this is a night where they'll be drawing from across their catalogue rather than touring a specific new record. It's a good chance to hear the songs you know alongside the ones that might have slipped through the cracks over the years.
They're playing Hackney Church on Lower Clapton Road in East London, so it's a bit of a trek if you're coming from the West End, but it puts them in a room where you'll be close enough to see them working. Doors open at 7:00 pm, and they're the only act on the bill, so there's no support to work your way through before they take the stage.
