Tortoise play Hackney Church in Lower Clapton on the Pitchfork Festival London stage, on their 2026 European tour.
Tortoise play Hackney Church on Wednesday 4 November, as part of the Pitchfork Festival London. It's one date in a fourteen-city European tour that runs from 31 October to 15 November, and the London stop falls right in the middle of that stretch.
They're touring Touch, the album they put out in 2025 through International Anthem and Nonesuch. It's their most diverse record to date, pulling from Krautrock, techno and desert guitar, and the five of them recorded it across Los Angeles, Portland and Chicago. The album closer, 'Night Gang', got a remix from electronic and computer music pioneer Carl Stone, who put it together in a hotel in Shanghai during his Chinese tour in September 2026.
Tortoise have been going for a long time now, and they've always worked two different ways: in the studio, they push the editing and overdubbing as far as they can; on stage, they play in real time. The 2026 lineup is Dan Bitney, James Elkington, John Herndon, Douglas McCombs and John McEntire.
