Tall Stories' stage adaptation of the children's book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, with storytelling, music, puppetry and live performance for audiences aged 3 and up.
Room on the Broom opens at the Lyric Theatre on Friday 27 November, running through to Sunday 3 January 2027. It's a Tall Stories production, based on the picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, and it's their Olivier Award-nominated stage adaptation of the story.
If you know the book, you know the setup: a witch and her cat travel on their broomstick and pick up hitchhikers along the way — a friendly dog, a beautiful green bird and a frantic frog. But the broom snaps in two just as a hungry dragon appears. The show brings those characters to life through storytelling, music, puppetry and live performance, so it's a bit more than just reading the story aloud. It runs for 60 minutes with no interval, which is a handy length if you're taking younger ones.
It's recommended for audiences aged 3 and up, and there's a rule to keep in mind: children aged 14 and below need an adult aged 18 or over sitting next to them. The Lyric is at 29 Shaftesbury Avenue, London W1D 7ES, right in the West End, so it's an easy one to get to if you're coming from across the city.
