Jordan Fein's Olivier award-winning revival of Sondheim and Lapine's fairytale musical, with a mostly new cast, at the Noƫl Coward Theatre.
Into the Woods is back at the Noƫl Coward Theatre for a strictly limited season running until 9 January. It's a revival of the Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine fairytale musical, this time with a mostly new cast, and it's already picked up the 2026 Olivier for Best Musical Revival. The production is presented by London Theatre Company in association with Jamie Wilson Productions.
The story brings together a baker and his wife, a cursed witch, a boy and his cow, a girl in a red cloak, a maiden with long flowing hair and a servant covered in cinders, who all journey deep into the dark woods. It's a reimagining by director Jordan Fein, who also did Fiddler on the Roof, with set and costume design from Tom Scutt, known for Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club. The critics have been on it: Tatler called it "London's best musical in years", Radio Times described it as "triumphant and other-worldly", and The Stage said it's "even better than ever".
It's recommended for ages 12 and over, and children under three aren't admitted. The show runs around two hours and forty minutes including an interval, and it's a sensory one: there's haze, loud noises, flashing lights and strobe effects, with periods of absolute darkness in the auditorium. If you're sensitive to any of that, it's worth keeping in mind before you book.
