Revival of August Wilson's Pulitzer Prize-winning play Fences, with Ray Fearon as Troy, at Lyric Hammersmith.
Fences is running at Lyric Hammersmith from 6 to 31 October, a revival of August Wilson's 1985 play. It's the sixth part of his ten-play cycle on the African-American experience, and it won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The story is set in the 1950s and follows the Maxson family, whose father, Troy, is a former baseball player and ex-convict now collecting garbage in Pittsburgh. It's often read as a timeless portrait of grief, love and family life in post-war Black America.
Ray Fearon takes the lead as Troy, with Madeline Appiah as Rose, Josh Tedeku as Cory, Simon-Anthony Rhoden as Gabriel, Michael Ahomka-Lindsay as Lyons and Everal A. Walsh as Bono. It's the play's first return to the UK in more than a decade, this time staged by award-winning director Daniel Bailey, who you might know from Red Pitch in the West End.
