Practical workshop for 14-16 year olds to explore Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet through activities and games, part of the Globe's Young People programme.
Shakespeare's Globe is running a Romeo and Juliet workshop for 14-16 year olds at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, with two sessions to choose from: Wednesday 28 October at 12.30 pm and Friday 30 October at 3.00 pm. It's a practical session, so rather than just talking about the play, you'll be getting on your feet and working through it. The whole thing is led by one of the company's experienced education practitioners, who uses activities and games to pull apart the play's language, characters and themes. You don't need any previous acting experience to join in, and it's pitched as a way to get a better handle on Shakespeare and theatre in general.
The workshop sits within the Globe's 'Young People' programme, which is aimed at aspiring actors and students alike. If you're already studying English Literature for GCSE or A level, the Globe also runs 'Boosts' sessions to help with that. The workshop itself is for young people attending independently, so you'll be in with people your own age rather than in a mixed group. Tickets have to be bought by someone over 18, and parents or guardians need to be there for drop-off and pick-up.

It's worth knowing where you'll be. The Sam Wanamaker Playhouse is the indoor theatre next to the main Globe, modelled on Jacobean playhouses and used for productions during the winter months when the outdoor Globe is closed. The main Globe is an oak-and-thatch replica of the Elizabethan original, standing just 230 metres from where the first one stood, with 850 seats on benches and another 700 standing 'Groundlings' by the stage. The Playhouse is a smaller, more enclosed space, which suits a workshop like this. Tickets are £23, which includes a £3 per order transaction fee.
