Practical workshop for aspiring actors and academics aged 17 to 19 to explore Shakespeare's Othello through activities and games.
Shakespeare's Globe is running an Othello workshop for 17- to 19-year-olds at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse on Bankside, with two dates to choose from: Monday 26 October and Saturday 31 October, both starting at 14:30. It's part of the Globe's young people's programme, aimed at aspiring actors and academics in that age bracket, and you don't need any previous experience to take part.
One of the company's experienced education practitioners leads the session, using activities and games to get into the language, characters and themes of the tragedy. The group works on the stage of the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse itself, rather than in a separate rehearsal room, so you're working in the space where the play actually lives. The session runs for an hour and a half.

If you're not fully up to speed on the play, the plot is a familiar one: the general Othello appoints Cassio as his chief lieutenant, and the envious Iago plots revenge by manipulating Othello into believing his wife, Desdemona, is having an affair with Cassio. The workshop is designed for young people attending independently, though tickets have to be bought by someone over 18. It's also worth keeping in mind that workshops in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse don't include a visit to the Globe Theatre. Tickets are £23, which includes a £3 per order transaction fee.
