Screening of short films about the ocean at Union Chapel, with a pre-show dinner at the venue's Margins Cafe.
The Ocean Film Festival comes to Union Chapel in Islington on Tuesday 20 October, with the main screening starting at 7:30pm. It's a one-night stop on a wider tour running across the UK and Ireland from 25 September in Whitley Bay to 26 November in Cambridge, and the London date is one of the few chances to catch it in the capital.
The festival is put on by the team behind the Banff Mountain Film Festival UK & Ireland tour, and they describe it as a cinematic celebration of our oceans. The programme mixes breathtaking marine life with wild seafaring voyages, following the surfers, paddlers, divers and scientists who have dedicated their lives to answering the call of the sea. It's a broad church of a night, so it works whether you're into the natural history side of things or the more adventurous, human stories.
Doors open early for a pre-show dinner at the venue's Margins Cafe, and all profits from the meal go to The Margins Project, which works with people facing homelessness and crisis. If you're planning to eat there, it's worth arriving with plenty of time to spare before the 7:30pm start. Seating inside the chapel is unreserved and first come first served, so if you've got a preference for where you sit, getting in early is the way to do it. The evening is recommended for ages 12 and over.
