Free screening of the film 'National Emergency Briefing' followed by a Q&A with Maja Maricevic and Angela Francis, part of Green Libraries Week.
The British Library is hosting a community screening of National Emergency Briefing on Monday 26 October, in the Pigott Theatre at the Knowledge Centre. The film brings together nine leading UK scientists and experts who present the latest evidence on extreme weather, food security, and the cost of living — the kind of big-picture stuff that's usually tucked away in reports rather than put on a screen.
It's not just the film, though. After the screening, there's a short Q&A with Maja Maricevic and Angela Francis. Maricevic is the Director of Science and Innovation at the British Library and chair of the UK Green Libraries Campaign. Francis is an economist who spent twenty years working on productivity and low-carbon growth at Green Alliance and WWF UK; her TED talk on the green economy has gathered more than 1.7 million views. Having them both there to talk through the film's points should make for a proper conversation rather than just a formal panel.
The whole thing is part of Green Libraries Week, the national annual celebration of libraries. This year's theme is 'Climate Facts for a greener future: Navigating mis- and disinformation in libraries', so the screening fits right into that — taking a look at the actual evidence and talking about how to make sense of it. If you've been following the climate conversation and want to see where the current science actually stands, this is a good place to start.
