Free social afternoon of live music from SAHRA and favourite records from across the decades for older people, part of The Jazz Social.
Music & Memories is a social afternoon for older people at The Jazz Social on Wednesday 11 November, part of the EFG London Jazz Festival. It's a session built around music and company: you'll hear live music from SAHRA, and favourite records from across the decades. The idea is to create a welcoming space to meet others, make connections and spend an afternoon together.
The records are as much a part of it as the live set. You'll hear songs from different eras, and anyone attending is welcome to bring along a favourite record from their younger years and explain why it means something to them. The songs that come up are meant to spark stories, so the afternoon is as much about the talking as the listening. There's no knowledge of jazz needed, and there's no pressure to join in if you'd rather just sit back and listen.
The session is held at The Jazz Social, the festival's hangout: a ground-floor, step-free pop-up a stone's throw from the Barbican Centre. It's an intimate space that runs live performances, one-off events, live radio broadcasts and family-friendly activities throughout the festival. Jazz FM and One Jazz broadcast live from the venue, and the bar stays open until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays, with happy hour every day from 5-7pm.
