Interactive workshop for 12-16 year olds to explore Shakespeare's Macbeth through activities and games, led by the Globe's educational practitioners.
Shakespeare's Globe is running a Macbeth workshop for 12-16 year olds on Monday 26 October, part of their Young People programme. It's a practical, interactive session held on-site in one of the Globe's rehearsal rooms at Bankside, and it's pitched at teenagers with an interest in drama or literature. You don't need any previous experience to take part—just a willingness to jump in.
Over the course of an hour and a half, you'll explore Macbeth through activities and games that draw out the play's language, characters and themes. A good bit of that comes from looking at the relationship between the play and the Globe's own unique performance conditions, so it's as much about how the play works on its feet as it is about the text. The session is led by the Globe's educational practitioners—actors, teachers and directors—who've spent plenty of time working with young people.
Macbeth is one of Shakespeare's darkest and most powerful tragedies, a gripping account of one man's determination to secure the crown of Scotland. For anyone studying GCSE or A level English Literature, the workshop can work as a head start or as an accompaniment to the work you're already doing in class. It's a way to get a feel for the play's energy before you dive into the analysis.

Tickets are ÂŁ18, which includes a ÂŁ3 transaction fee, and the booking also comes with a tour of the Globe Theatre. A few practical things to keep in mind: tickets have to be bought by someone over 18, and accompanying adults stay on the Globe site rather than inside the workshop room itself. The session runs for ninety minutes, and the tour is included in the price.
