Workshop led by artist Jane McCall to paint a handmade lampshade with chalk paints, inspired by the work of Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant.
Jane McCall is leading a lampshade painting workshop at Tate Britain on Saturday 21 November, from 10:30 to 15:00. It's held in the Clore Studio on the main floor, and the whole session is built around the work of Vanessa Bell, Duncan Grant and the Bloomsbury Group. It runs alongside the exhibition Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant: Inside Bloomsbury, so the two sit together.
The day starts with an introduction to the exhibition, and from there McCall shows you how to paint directly onto a handmade lampshade using chalk paints. The idea is to turn a plain shade into a unique piece of art you can actually use at home. All the materials are provided, and it's open to all levels of experience, so you don't need to be a painter to get stuck in.
McCall is an artist and potter who co-founded Bloomsbury Revisited in 2020 with her business partner Jane Howard. The brand takes its inspiration from Charleston Farmhouse and makes lampshades, lamp bases, wallpapers and textiles. Beyond the business, she's led creative workshops at Charleston, Dulwich Picture Gallery and the Courtauld Gallery, and her designs are stocked by retailers like Liberty of London. This session draws on that same Bloomsbury connection that runs through her work.
