Three-hour cider making workshop for two with an expert host, apple pressing, a cheeseboard, honey and a cider tasting, with each participant taking home bottles to fill at home.
Hiver are running their cider making workshop for two in Bermondsey on Tuesday 27 October. It's a three-hour session, and the whole thing is built around the actual process of making cider from scratch rather than just watching someone else do it. You'll spend the morning sampling the apples, weighing, washing and chopping them, and then pressing the juice yourself.
While you're working, an expert host walks you through the history of cider making and the state of the industry today, so you'll leave knowing a bit more about where your drink actually comes from. The session doesn't stop at the pressing, either: there's a cider tasting that runs across styles from brut to sweet, and the table is spread with honeys and a cheeseboard to graze on while you go. It's designed for two, so it works as a date or just a proper morning out with a mate.
One of the best bits is what you take home. Each participant gets a tote bag with a Demijohn, two bottles to fill at home, and a 'how to' guide, so you can keep the process going in your own kitchen. It's a minimum age of 18, which makes sense given the tasting. Hiver also runs this on selected Saturdays from September to March, and if you're buying it as a gift, the voucher is redeemable for 12 months from purchase.

There's a bit more to it than just the workshop, too. Hiver sources its honey from independent British beekeepers, shares bee-friendly seeds, and pledges 10% of its profits to pollinator and green-space projects. The session costs £69 per person.
