Three-hour hands-on cider making session at Hiver's Cider House in Bermondsey, where you press the juice, taste British ciders and take home bottles to fill.
Hiver's Cider House in Bermondsey is running cider making workshops for two on selected Saturdays from September to March, with the next one coming up on Monday 26 October. It's a three-hour hands-on session, and you'll need to be at least 18 to join. An expert host takes you through the history of cider making and the state of the industry today, so you get the context before you actually get your hands dirty.
The practical part is exactly what you'd expect: you sample the apples, weigh them, wash them, and chop them, then press the juice yourself. While the pressing is happening, there's a cheeseboard to nibble, honeys to taste and a range of British ciders to sample, from brut to sweet, alongside tutoring on fermentation. It's a good way to spend a Saturday afternoon if you've ever wondered how the stuff actually comes together.
Each participant takes home a tote bag with a demijohn, two bottles to fill at home and a 'how to' guide, so you can keep the process going after the session ends. Hiver also works with pollinator awareness, sourcing honey from independent British beekeepers, sharing bee-friendly seeds and pledging 10% of profits to pollinator and green-space projects.
