Workshop for 14-16 year olds that brings Shakespeare's Hamlet to life through discussion and practical drama activities in a Globe rehearsal room.
Shakespeare's Globe is running a Hamlet workshop for 14 to 16-year-olds on Saturday 24 October, starting at 12.00 noon. It's held in one of the theatre's rehearsal rooms rather than on the stage itself, and you'll meet in the main foyer first.
The session brings the tragedy to life through active discussion and practical drama activities, led by one of the Globe's experienced education practitioners. It works through the play's themes of grief, madness and family relationships, and includes a tour of the Globe Theatre. The story is a familiar one: in the gloom of Denmark, Prince Hamlet's recently deceased father appears as a ghost, poisoned by his own brother, and the Prince swears to avenge him — a vow that sets him on a path of further madness and bloodshed.
The workshop is part of the Globe's wider young people's programme, which also includes the Globe Young Company, an intensive training programme for aspiring actors aged 14-19, and the weekly Globe Youth Theatre. If you're looking for something more regular, those are worth keeping in mind alongside this one-off session.
