Weekly flamenco class for improvers with Maika Jimenez Blanco, working on footwork, arm technique, rhythm and choreography.
Maika Jimenez Blanco is running her flamenco improvers class at Danceworks on Thursday 22 October, from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. It's not a one-off, either — the class runs every Thursday until 25 November, so you can stick with it for the full stretch rather than just dropping in for a single hour.
It's aimed at people who've already had some flamenco experience and want to get a bit deeper into the technique and choreography. Each session works through the essentials: footwork (zapateado), arm and hand technique (braceos y floreos), turns, coordination, and posture, alongside flamenco rhythm, musicality, choreography, and stage presence. The current repertoire is Tangos de Triana, so you'll be working through that particular style over the coming weeks.
Maika Jimenez Blanco is an internationally experienced flamenco teacher and the founder of 'Flamenco with Maika', which she frames as 'Flamenco for everybody'. The classes are set up for students to build their understanding in a supportive, inclusive environment, and they draw on traditional flamenco styles. Danceworks is described as a welcoming and energetic space, and flamenco shoes are recommended if you've got them.
