Five-day theatre writing intensive led by SCRUM Theatre's Tristan Fynn-Aiduenu and Somebody Jones, where participants build a play set in a speculative world.
Riverside Studios is hosting a Five Day Autumn Writing Intensive from Monday 26 to Friday 30 October, running 10am to 5pm each day. It's led by Tristan Fynn-Aiduenu and Somebody Jones, both part of SCRUM Theatre, a Hammersmith-based collective of artists and theatre-makers who came together during the pandemic to provide affordable artist development and keep theatremaking going for the next generation.
The week is built around Fynn-Aiduenu's 'Tell Me A Tale Method', a practical framework for building story from the inside out. It leans on hands-on exercises and embodied practice rather than performance experience, so you don't need a background in acting or a portfolio of plays to get stuck in. Over the five days, you'll build a play set in a speculative world — fantasy, sci-fi, horror or magical realism — and work through world-building, character, story structure and dramaturgy with industry professionals. By the end of the week, you'll leave with a world bible, fresh reading and research material on speculative fiction, and a new scene. The whole thing culminates in an afternoon group reading, where writers hear their work read aloud by fellow creatives.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in London and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.

It's not just for writers, either: actors, devisers and companies are welcome alongside them. The intensive runs from Monday 26 to Friday 30 October, 10am to 5pm daily, at Riverside Studios, 101 Queen Caroline St, London W6 9BN. Places are £480, with a limited number of discounted tickets for SCRUMmunity members and a limited number of free bursary places available.
