Free hands-on workshop for families to imagine and build mini models of public buildings of 2050 from recycled materials, led by Jahba Anan for RIBA Learning.
Drop-in Design: Your Future City runs at the V&A South Kensington from Monday 26 to Friday 30 October, with sessions from 11am to 4pm each day. It's a hands-on workshop for families, led by architectural designer and educator Jahba Anan for RIBA Learning. The sessions on Thursday 29 and Friday 30 October were cancelled due to industrial action at the museum, so if you're planning to go, the first three days are your window.
The idea is to imagine, redesign and build the shared public buildings and landmarks of tomorrow. It asks what a library, a school or a train station might become by 2050, and you bring your ideas to life by making a mini model of your dream building from recycled materials. Each model gets added to a city of the future that grows over the course of the five days, so the more people who drop in, the bigger the city gets. The whole thing is run by RIBA Learning, whose programme explores, questions and celebrates architecture across London.
To get started, you're encouraged to draw inspiration from the Design 1900-Now galleries, which look at how design has changed the way we live, work, travel and communicate over the last 125 years. It's a good way to see where we've come from before you start figuring out where we're going. The session is suitable for ages five and over, and all the materials you'll need are provided on the day. Just a couple of practicals to keep in mind: no child may be left unattended, and a parent must stay with them throughout.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in London and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.
