A family-friendly outdoor adventure where visitors explore the wetlands and discover the 'superpowers' of wildlife through self-guided activities like mushroom art and willow weaving.
Autumn Adventures kicks off at WWT London Wetland Centre on Saturday 17 October, and it runs right through to Friday 23 October. It's a family-friendly outdoor activity, so it's one you can drop into over the course of a week rather than having to pin down a single afternoon. The whole thing is self-guided, which is the best part: you explore the wetlands at your own pace, and you don't have to stick to a set schedule.
When you arrive, you pick up a SUPER Natural logbook, and that's what guides you through the rest. The theme is the 'superpowers' of wetland wildlife, and the activities are built around that. There's mushroom art to make, a handmade willow wand to weave, and a marshland potion to mix. You'll also be searching for seasonal fungi along the way, so it's as much about looking at what's actually growing around you as it is about the making side of things. If you're taking kids, it's the kind of thing that keeps them busy and moving rather than just standing and listening.
Because it's self-guided, you can take as long as you like with each bit. If you're into the weaving, you can spend your time there; if you'd rather get out and find the fungi, you can do that first. It's a good way to spend a few hours outdoors in the autumn, and since it runs for seven days, you can pick whichever date works best for you.
