Interactive drawalong session where Jeffrey Brown, author of 'Darth Vader and Son', talks about his book while drawing, suitable for ages 7 and over.
Jeffrey Brown is coming to Waterstones Liverpool on Wednesday 11 November, hosted by the store's comic book group. It's an interactive drawalong, which means rather than just sitting and listening, you'll watch him draw while he talks through the book, so it's more of a demonstration than a standard reading.
The book at the centre of it is LEGO Nikolas Nurdblok & The Lost Brick, an adventure Brown describes as Diary of a Wimpy Kid meeting the endless invention of the LEGO-verse. It's told through comic-strip style black-and-white illustrations and aimed at readers aged seven and over, with Dog Man and The 13-Storey Treehouse listed as influences. If those are already on your kids' bookshelves, this should sit right alongside them.
Brown is a New York Times bestselling author and illustrator whose work lives at the intersection of children's fiction and comic art. He's well known for his licensed work, too: Star Wars Jedi Academy, Darth Vader and Son, and Marvel's Hulk are all part of his bibliography, so he's comfortable working with some of the biggest names in pop culture. This session is suitable for ages seven and over, the same as the book itself.
