Author Brian Reade talks about his book 'The Kop', in conversation with Roy Boulter, followed by a Q&A and book signing.
Brian Reade is coming to Waterstones Liverpool on Thursday 29 October to talk about his new book, The Kop - A Fan's History of Football's Most Famous Stand. It's a look at how the stand became the globally renowned terrace it is today, and Reade knows the subject from the inside: he's been an Anfield regular for 60 years, most of them spent on the Kop, where he's still a season-ticket holder.
He's a Liverpool-born, award-winning journalist and Sunday Times best-selling author, and he writes a weekly opinion column for the Daily Mirror. The book traces the Kop's history back to the South African hill it was named after, and Reade draws a parallel between that 'acre of massacre' and the Hillsborough Disaster. He also looks at how the Kop invented mass terrace singing in the 1960s and inspired some of European football's greatest comebacks.
He won't be on his own for the evening. He's joined by Roy Boulter, another Liverpool season-ticket holder and a founder member of Spirit Of Shankly Supporters Union. Boulter's career has run across music, television and film: he was the drummer in The Farm, has over 130 scriptwriting credits including Brookside, EastEnders and the BAFTA-winning The Street, and works at Hurricane Films. The two will talk through the book, followed by a Q&A with the audience and a book signing.
