A string quartet plays Michael Jackson songs under candlelight at St George's Hall, with a second show on 27 December.
A string quartet is taking on Michael Jackson at St George's Hall on Friday 6 November, with a second date following on Sunday 27 December. Both start at 8:30pm in the Great Hall, and the whole thing is played under candlelight. It's part of the Candlelight concert series, which takes live music into locations like this and reimagines a catalogue under a glow of candles rather than a full stage rig.
The setlist covers a lot of ground, from the early Jackson 5 days with 'I Want You Back' through to the solo years. You'll hear 'Rock With You', 'Human Nature', 'Billie Jean', 'Say Say Say', 'We Are the World', 'Man in the Mirror', 'Smooth Criminal', 'Black or White', 'Heal the World', 'Remember the Time', 'Earth Song', 'They Don't Really Care About Us' and 'Thriller'. It's a tribute, not a production, so the songs are stripped back to the quartet's strings rather than the original recordings.

St George's Hall is right in the centre, opposite Lime Street Station in St George's Quarter, and the concert runs for 60 minutes. Doors open 45 minutes before it starts, and there's no entry once the performance has begun, so it's worth getting there early. Seating is assigned on a first-come, first-served basis within each zone, and the experience is recommended for ages 8 and over, with under-16s needing an adult. It's a tribute concert and isn't affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by the artist, their estate or official representatives. Tickets are £14.00.
