Stage adaptation of Thomas Harris's horror novel, with John Partridge as Hannibal Lecter and Mollie Gallagher as Clarice Starling, at the Liverpool Empire.
The Silence of the Lambs comes to the Liverpool Empire from Tuesday 15 to Saturday 19 June 2027. It's a stage adaptation of Thomas Harris's classic horror novel, and it's billed as the world's first live staging of the book, with its world stage premiere in the UK following a stage premiere in 2026. The play was written by the award-winning playwright Gina Gionfriddo and directed by Nikolai Foster, and it was staged by Leicester Curve before heading out on tour.
The story follows FBI agent Clarice Starling, who teams up with the imprisoned cannibal Dr Hannibal Lecter to track the serial killer Buffalo Bill. While it draws on the 1991 Jonathan Demme film and Anthony Hopkins's Oscar-winning portrayal of Lecter, the stage version follows the novel more closely, expanding on Buffalo Bill's motivations. Sets are by Michael Taylor and music by Grant Olding.
John Partridge takes on Hannibal Lecter, with Mollie Gallagher as Clarice Starling and Oliver Farnworth as Jack Crawford. Sam Jackson plays Buffalo Bill, Minal Patel as Frederick Chilton, Jo Mousley as Senator Ruth Martin, Lottie Amor as Catherine Martin, Mark Peachey as Pilcher, Andrew Joshi as Peterson, and Jonny Magnanti as Wertimer, while Mary Timbrell Hill plays multiple roles. The show runs about 2 hours 15 minutes including the interval and is recommended for ages 15 and over.
