The National Theatre's smash-hit stage adaptation of Mark Haddon's best-selling novel, exploring the mystery of a missing dog and a coming-of-age story.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is playing at the Liverpool Empire on Tuesday 3 November and Saturday 7 November, two dates in the middle of a run that brings the National Theatre's stage adaptation of Mark Haddon's best-selling novel to Lime Street. It's a production that's travelled a long way to get here, having gone from the National Theatre to Broadway and through an acclaimed UK and international tour.
The story follows Christopher, a fifteen-year-old with an extraordinary mind for maths but who struggles to make sense of everyday life. He finds himself acting as both detective and suspect when a neighbour's dog, Wellington, is found dead, and he sets out to solve the mystery. It's a whodunnit on the surface, but it's also a coming-of-age story, and the production has been described as one of the most immersive works to play on Broadway.
Behind the scenes, it's a National Theatre production adapted by two-time Olivier Award winner Simon Stephens and directed by Olivier and Tony Award winner Marianne Elliott. It picked up seven Olivier Awards and five Tonys, including Best Play, before it hit the road. For this run, Joe McFadden and Charlie Brooks play Chris' parents, Ed and Judy.
