A high-energy, all-live musical pantomime of Beauty and the Beast, presented as a rock concert and pop spectacular by the Everyman Theatre company.
The Rock 'n' Roll Panto returns to the Everyman Theatre on Saturday 14 November, with Beauty and the Beast taking the lead this year. It's the theatre's signature musical pantomime, a Liverpool-made, all-live reinterpretation of the fairytale staged as part rock concert, part pop spectacular and all-out family fun. The production is presented by the Liverpool Merseyside Theatre Trust and runs from 14 November through to Saturday 16 January, so you've plenty of time to find a date that works.
They describe it as the story turned all the way up to eleven: a little naughty, a lot loud and totally live, carried by powerhouse vocals, electrifying tunes and wild costumes. The whole thing is staged by the Everyman's own actor-musicians, who play the instruments and the roles at the same time. It's written by Joe Ward Munrun and directed by Ellie Light, with set and costume design by Greg Last, musical supervision and arrangement by Henry Brennan and choreography by Rebecca Levy. Lighting design is by Joshie Harriette.
Because it's a panto, it's built for families, and since it's a rock 'n' roll one, it's more of a gig than a traditional play. The actor-musician setup means the music is happening right there on stage, not coming from a pit or a recording. If you've seen the Everyman's previous pantos, you'll know the format: the fairytale we all know, just played loud and live.
