Weekly open-mic night for original songwriters, poets, comedians and performers, hosted by Ian Prowse.
Ian Prowse hosts the Monday Club at The Cavern Pub on Monday 2 November, starting at 8:00 pm. It's a weekly open-mic night for original artists that's been running at the pub for more than a decade, and it's built on one single rule: no cover versions. Songwriters play their own compositions, though the stage is open to full bands, poets, playwrights and comedians too. Performers just turn up on the night and play three songs, with no need to pre-arrange anything.
Prowse, a local musician known for Pele and Amsterdam and often called the 'Scouse Springsteen', runs the night. It's come to be one of the most celebrated songwriter nights in the UK, and over the years it's drawn legendary songwriters and rising stars alike. The crowd is a regular mix of Merseyside musicians and visitors from around the world.
The Cavern Pub is the third venue in the Cavern family, sitting directly opposite the world-famous Cavern Club on Mathew Street. Its walls are lined with memorabilia, and there's free live music every evening. The Monday Club is just one of the nights that keep it going.
