Drop-off class for children aged 4 to 6 to explore the museum galleries and solve a ghostly mystery with science, art and sensory activities.
Young Explorers: Ghost Detectives is at the Indiana State Museum on Saturday, October 17, from 1:00 to 2:30 PM. It's a 90-minute drop-off class for kids aged 4 to 6, which means they attend on their own and caregivers don't accompany or participate. The whole session is part of the museum's Early Childhood Learning programs, designed to let the little ones explore and be independent in an environment that encourages curiosity and imagination.
The kids spend the session as ghost detectives solving a mystery. They'll wander through the museum galleries and take part in hands-on science, art, and sensory activities built around the monthly theme. Along the way, they'll read a silly ghost story and pick up the science behind the methods they'll need to solve a ghostly mystery. It's a mix of storytelling and doing, with the museum's galleries serving as the backdrop for the investigation.
The class is part of the museum's Spooky Season program, which runs from September 25 to October 31, 2026. If you've got kids in that age range, it's worth remembering that the Indiana State Museum—located in downtown Indianapolis' White River State Park—also houses Firefly Landing, a learning space for children aged 6 and under with interactive story time and sensory tables, so there's more for them to do there beyond this one class.
