Free sessions for children and families to explore robots, LEGOs, STEM apps, crafts and games at their own pace at the Central Library.
Explore STEM + More is running at the Central Library through October 31, a partnership between the Indianapolis Public Library and Kid Central. It's a drop-in science and technology exploration for kids and families, and the sessions are held on the library's third floor.
Inside, the setup is built for kids to move through at their own pace. There are robots to play with, LEGOs to build, STEM apps to try, and a mix of crafts and games. It's not a structured class with a set start and end; you just show up and let the kids drift between the different stations. The library organizes the sessions, and they're aimed at preschoolers, school-age kids, and teens, so it works whether you've got a toddler or a middle-schooler in tow. If you're coming with a child who needs sensory items, you can request those in advance.
Because it's a series of sessions rather than a single event, you've got a few different windows to work with. The weekday slots are Wednesday, October 21 and Wednesday, October 28, both from 3 PM to 5 PM. The weekend options are more frequent: Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18, from 1 PM to 4 PM; Saturday, October 24 and Sunday, October 25, from 1 PM to 4 PM; and finally, Saturday, October 31, from 1 PM to 4 PM. No advance registration is required, so you can just drop in when it fits your schedule.
