Session on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and how geography shapes daily life in Indianapolis-Marion County, presented by Katie Springer of the Indiana State Data Center.
Mapping Indianapolis - The Science of Somewhere is coming to the Central Library on Saturday, November 14, from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM. It's presented by Katie Springer of the Indiana State Data Center, and it's part of the Culture, History, and Society programs hosted by the Indianapolis Special Collections Room.
The session is all about Geographic Information Systems, or GISβthe technology that lets you map data and see how different pieces of information overlap on a map. Springer will walk through it using real-world examples from Indianapolis-Marion County, so you'll see the city you know from a different angle. From there, the talk moves into the broader question of how geography shapes your daily life, including a look at how Google Maps actually works under the hood. It's a chance to see the logic behind the tools we use to get around every day.
