Hands-on workshop for preschoolers at the Haughville Branch where they build their own tiny terrarium.
Little Sprouts is back at the Haughville Branch on Wednesday, November 4, from 11 AM to 11:45 AM. It's a hands-on workshop for preschoolers, and the project this time is a simple one: little hands build their own tiny terrariums. If you've got a preschooler at home, it's a good excuse to get them out of the house and doing something with their hands on a weekday morning.
The branch itself has a bit of a story. It's the longest continuously operating branch in the IndyPL system, having opened on the city's east side in 1896 before moving to the Haughville village after 1897. It's lived in a few different spots since then: it spent time in the former town hall on Georgia Avenue, which a 1904 fire partially destroyed, and later in a storefront in the Michigan Plaza Shopping Center. That storefront served as the library until 2003, when the current 12,000-square-foot building on West Michigan Street finally opened. So when you walk in, you're stepping into a branch that's been around since the late nineteenth century, even if the building is relatively new.
