Weekly 30-minute storytime with songs for toddlers and preschoolers aged 1 to 6, run by librarians Alice and Tressa.
Toddler and Preschool Storytime is back at the Haughville Branch this Wednesday, October 28. It's a half-hour of stories, songs, and fun run by Alice, and it's aimed at the little ones—toddlers and preschoolers from age 1 to 6. If you've got a kid in that range, it's a good way to spend a Wednesday morning.
Alice leads the session, and the format is pretty straightforward: stories read aloud, songs to sing along to, and a bit of activity to keep the kids moving. It's designed for that 1-to-6 age group, so it works whether you're bringing a toddler who's just starting to listen or a preschooler who's already got a favorite book. The whole thing runs about 30 minutes, which is usually just about the right length before the attention spans start to wander.
The session happens every Wednesday at the Haughville Branch, so if this one doesn't fit your schedule, there's another one next week. The branch itself has a bit of a story to it—it's the longest continuously operating branch in the Indianapolis Public Library system. It started on the city's east side in 1896 and moved into the Haughville village after 1897. Over the years it's had a few homes: it spent time in the former town hall on Georgia Avenue, which a 1904 fire partially destroyed, and then it moved into a storefront in the Michigan Plaza Shopping Center. It stayed there until 2003, when the current 12,000-square-foot library opened on West Michigan Street.
