Drop-in session with board games and puzzles for school-age children and families at the Southport Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library.
Family Game Day is coming to the Southport Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library on Saturday, November 14, from 12 PM to 4 PM. It's a drop-in session for school-age children and families of all ages, and the library provides the board games and puzzles, so you don't have to bring your own from home. You can roll in whenever you like during that four-hour window and stay for as long as you want.
If you're not familiar with the branch, it's located at 2630 East Stop 11 Road in Indianapolis. The Southport Branch has a bit of a history behind it: it started back in 1967 as a small storefront in the Madison Square Shopping Center. When the library finally secured a site for a larger facility, a new 15,700-square-foot building opened in 1974 on East Stop 11 Road. Even before that move, a group of Perry Township residents showed their support by raising more than $5,000 to provide additional books for the new library.

That same community spirit is what makes a day like this work. It's a simple, low-pressure afternoon: you show up, pick a game or a puzzle, and spend a few hours playing with your kids or whoever you bring along. Since it's a drop-in, there's no need to be there right at the start—you can swing by mid-afternoon if that fits your schedule better. The board games and puzzles are all provided, so the only thing you really need to bring is yourself and whoever you want to play with. It's a good way to spend a Saturday afternoon without having to plan a whole day's worth of activities. The Southport Branch is at 2630 East Stop 11 Road, and the session runs from 12 PM to 4 PM on Saturday, November 14.
