Half-day woodworking sessions led by Glasgow Wood staff to build your own piece of furniture from reclaimed timber.
Glasgow Wood are running woodworking workshops at their South Street workshop from 21 November 2026 through to 27 February 2027. They're half-day sessions, all starting at 10:30, and you pick the date that works for you. Each one is led by one of the Glasgow Wood woodworkers and takes you through every stage of the process — cutting, assembling and finishing — so you take home a piece you made entirely yourself.
The choice of what to build is quite broad. There's the Mini Campsie Coffee Table, a compact piece with secret storage that they added to the programme after popular demand, and the Scaffolding Board Shelving for something more utilitarian. If you're after something larger, there's the Suilven Bookcase, the Iona or Islay Benches, and the Adirondack Lounge Chair. For a smaller project, they do Bat and Bird Boxes. The prices run from £50 for the boxes up to £400 for the lounge chair, with the shelving at £100, the benches at £150, the coffee table at £225 and the bookcase at £300.
It helps to know what's behind the workshop. Glasgow Wood is a charity and social enterprise that makes indoor and outdoor furniture from reclaimed timber, stocking everything from shelves and tables to benches and planters — all completely customisable, alongside a bespoke design service. As a charity, it opens up volunteer opportunities to local people facing social exclusion and barriers to employment. The workshops themselves run in the South Street workshop inside the Barclay Curle Complex, which is home to one of the city's four remaining iconic Titan Cranes.
