Halloween craft workshop in which you arrange a fresh flower arrangement inside a real pumpkin, with a look at the folklore of flowers and herbs.
Roaming Wild Flowers are running a Halloween craft workshop at Barclay Curle Studios on Sunday 25 October, from 3pm to 5pm. The idea is simple enough: you arrange a fresh flower display inside a real, scooped-out pumpkin. You take your creation home when you're finished, so it's something you can actually keep on your table for a while rather than just a few hours of making.
There's a bit more to it than just the arranging, though. While you work, you'll hear about how flowers and herbs have been used for spells, potions and charms, and the folklore that sits behind them. It's billed as a gathering that happens only once a year, when the pumpkins are ripe and the spirits are near. Witches' hats and costumes are welcome, so if you've been looking for an excuse to wear yours a bit early, this is a good spot for it.
The venue, Barclay Curle Studios at 739 South Street in the West End, is home to a community of independent artists, makers and creatives who open their doors for the Barclay Curle Open Studios weekend. The studio complex also runs GlasGLOW, which since launching in 2018 has grown into the UK's biggest and best-loved Halloween event, so the whole place knows its way around a spooky season. This workshop is one of the smaller, hands-on things happening around the time.
