As for the venue, The Stand is a Glasgow institution. It opened in 1995 at 420 Great Western Road in the West End, and it's grown from a hobby started by a group of enthusiasts into a commercial company with three purpose-built clubs across Edinburgh, Glasgow and Newcastle. It's kept its roots in developing new Scottish comedy, and the programme still runs Red Raw beginners' nights, improvised comedy, sketch shows, the all-female Wicked Wenches, and Irish and Scottish showcases alongside solo shows from better-known names.
