High-octane interactive comedy show The Dark Room, by John Robertson, returns to The Stand Comedy Club. A live-action video-game experience where the audience must choose options to escape a dungeon.
John Robertson brings The Dark Room to The Stand Comedy Club on Wednesday 25 November, 8pm. It's his own creation, now in its 14th year, and it's a high-octane interactive show that blends stand-up, audience participation and gaming into a live-action video-game experience. The premise is simple: the crowd is trapped in an inescapable dungeon with a sadistic videogame boss and has to pick increasingly surreal options to try and escape. If they win, they get money; if they fail, they die. Permanently.
Robertson is the boss in this scenario, and the whole thing is built on the crowd's choices, so no two nights ever play out the same way. It's a long-running tour that's headlined stages at Glastonbury, PAX, Download Festival, MCM Comic Con, Utrecht International Comedy Festival, 2000 Trees, UK Games Expo and Bluedot Festival, and it's sold out at the Edinburgh Fringe, Soho Theatre and hundreds of theatres around the world. It was nominated for Best International Show at the New Zealand Comedy Festival 2025, won a Chortle Award and was runner-up in the NextUp Biggest Award in Comedy. Clips of the show roasting video games and swearing at children regularly go viral on social media.
