A darkly funny, disorientating piece of physical theatre exploring the struggle of leaving the house on time, featuring performers and their uncanny video doubles.
Cade & MacAskill bring NOW NOT NOW to Tramway on Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October, two nights of physical theatre that run from 7.30pm to 9.00pm. It's a darkly funny, disorientating piece from the team behind the international hit The Making of Pinocchio, and this time the focus is on the morning routine we all know too well. Two performers on stage are joined by their own uncanny video doubles, and together they spiral through a strange, looping morning where just getting out of the house on time becomes an epic struggle. Tasks loop, snag and unravel, and manipulated video playback fractures the moment as it happens.
Behind the scenes, the show is a co-creation by Rosana Cade, Ivor MacAskill, Tim Spooner and Yas Clarke, with lighting by Michaella Fee. It was commissioned by Tramway, Southbank Centre and Unlimited as an Unlimited International Strategic Commission, made possible with funding from the British Council. The development of the piece also drew on support from New Diorama Theatre, Gessnerallee, National Theatre of Scotland, Wysing Arts Centre, Cambridge Junction, Live Art Development Agency and Take Me Somewhere.

They describe it as a visceral encounter with finitude, neurodivergence and the relentless demands of late-stage capitalism, so the looping morning routine is more of a jumping-off point than a simple plot. The show runs for 90 minutes without an interval and is recommended for ages 16+. Tickets are £18, or £12 for concessions, with transaction fees of £1.50 online and £1.75 by phone. The Saturday performance is audio-described.
