Tim Spector, Professor of genetic epidemiology at King's College London, brings his tour show on the link between gut health and well-being to the Assembly Rooms.
Tim Spector brings his live show to the Assembly Rooms on Thursday 22 October, part of a UK-wide tour presented by Intelligence Squared. It's called The Science of Good Mood Food, and it's built around the connection between gut health and human well-being.
Spector is a medically qualified Professor of genetic epidemiology at King's College London, Director of the TwinsUK Registry, and a scientific co-founder of ZOE. He's published over 900 research articles and ranks among the top 100 most cited scientists in the world, and he's written five popular books, including The Diet Myth and the Sunday Times bestseller Food for Life. This show draws on his new cookbook, Good Mood Food, and shares recipes to help put the science into everyday life.
His main argument is that how our bodies digest food depends heavily on the makeup of our gut bacteria. A balanced microbiome, he says, promotes heart, brain and metabolic health, while imbalances can lead to weight gain, high blood sugar, diabetes, allergies and autoimmune diseases. He explains how the gut and brain are connected and how the trillions of microbes in the intestine operate. He's joined on stage by Dr Güneş Taylor, with hosts like Ronni Ancona and Dr Rupy Aujla, founder of The Doctor's Kitchen, also featuring across the tour.
