Historian Dan Jones presents a gripping new history of the world told through its most iconic strongholds, based on his book 'Castles: A Fortified History of the World'.
Dan Jones is coming to the Assembly Rooms on Friday 30 October, bringing a new talk that tells a history of the world through its most iconic strongholds. If you've followed his work, you'll know he's one of the UK's most popular historians, the author of bestsellers like The Templars and Powers and Thrones, and the voice behind the This is History podcast. This is a live show, not a lecture, and it's built around the castles that have shaped human history.
He's taking you from the walls of Troy to the Tower of London, using those strongholds as a way to look at the bigger picture. He talks about what the world's greatest castles reveal about the rise and fall of empires, the resilience of people under siege, and the way new ideas flourished behind those walls. It's a broad sweep of time, and he's telling it through the buildings that stood through it all.
The talk is recommended for ages 14 and over, and copies of his book, Castles: A Fortified History of the World, will be available to buy during checkout and on the night. If you're already a fan of his podcast or his books, this is a good chance to hear him work through the material in person.
