Live concert by Mystery Ensemble of Howard Shore's soundtrack from The Lord of the Rings in the cathedral of Greyfriars Kirk.
Mystery Ensemble are bringing the music of The Lord of the Rings to Greyfriars Kirk on Friday 11 December, a live tribute to Howard Shore's soundtrack for Peter Jackson's film trilogy. Shore, a three-time Academy Award winner, composed the score that shaped the cinematic series, and the evening is framed as a tribute to that work. The concert takes the music from the screen into the cathedral setting of the kirk, with the ensemble performing the pieces live.
Mystery Ensemble was founded in 2021 by Almin Alexander and is made up of professional musicians who specialise in film and television soundtracks and tribute concerts in non-standard venues. Their repertoire reaches well beyond Middle-earth: they've played Harry Potter, Star Wars and The Hobbit, as well as Mozart, Bach, Beethoven and Wagner, and the scores of Hans Zimmer, John Williams and Ludovico Einaudi. In their own programme note, they invite the audience to feel like heroes of Tolkien's universe, where elves, orcs, hobbits and dwarves live.
