A concert of Danny Elfman's music from Tim Burton's films, performed by Mystery Ensemble, blending playfulness with menace and tenderness with grandeur.
Mystery Ensemble are performing Tim Burton's Universe at Greyfriars Kirk on Saturday 31 October, a concert that takes the music of Danny Elfman from the screen to the stage. Elfman has been Burton's lifelong collaborator, and his scoring is at the heart of the night. It's described as blending playfulness with menace and tenderness with grandeur, a mirror of Burton's own visual imagination.
Alongside the most famous themes, the programme draws on moments from Corpse Bride, Beetlejuice, Batman and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, with Mystery Ensemble bringing those worlds to life in their own arrangements of soaring voices and bold instrumental colours. It's a good way to hear the music that shaped Burton's cinematic universe in one go, rather than scattered across different films.
