The Bohemian Symphony Orchestra Prague plays Vivaldi's The Four Seasons with Czech violinist Matteo Hager as soloist in a chamber formation.
The Bohemian Symphony Orchestra Prague bring Vivaldi's The Four Seasons to Greyfriars Kirk on Friday 6 November, with the Czech violinist Matteo Hager as soloist. The evening centres on that Baroque masterpiece, published in Venice around 1725 and paired with four sonnets. The four concertos — Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter — are widely regarded as the most popular set of pieces in the whole Baroque repertoire, and here they're framed by four other string-repertoire favourites: Mozart's Eine kleine Nachtmusik, Bach's Air on the G String, Pachelbel's Canon in D and Handel's Water Music.
The Bohemian Symphony Orchestra Prague is a professional orchestra from the Czech capital, a city with a string tradition running from Dvořák and Smetana to the present day. For this performance, they're playing in chamber formation, drawn from their principal players. The soloist is the young Czech violinist Matteo Hager, a Royal Academy of Music graduate and Christopher Hogwood Scholarship recipient who's now pursuing a master's at the Royal College of Music in London. Václav Hudeček has described him as one of the most striking violin talents of his generation.
