Evening classical organ recital by Jordan English, Assistant Organist of St Giles' Cathedral, as part of the St Giles' at Six series.
Jordan English takes the organ at St Giles' Cathedral on Sunday 1 November, as part of the St Giles' at Six recital series. It's a free hour of music in the heart of the city, and this particular evening is given by the cathedral's own Assistant Organist.
The programme pulls from a few different eras and styles. He opens with Georg Böhm's Praeludium in C, a piece of the older Baroque tradition, before moving into the twentieth century with Marcel Dupré's Prelude and Fugue in F minor. From there, the set shifts to more contemporary ground: Marco Lo Muscio's New Litanies and Sydney Nicholson's Impromptu in D major. He closes with Jehan Alain's Trois Pièces, a set of three contrasting movements that bring the hour to a close.
It's a wide-ranging selection, and hearing it from the cathedral's Assistant Organist gives the whole thing a bit of a home-grown feel. St Giles' at Six is a free recital series that brings together local and international performers of classical and contemporary music, so this is one of the evenings where the music comes from within the cathedral's own team.
