Wildlife campaigner Lucy Lapwing talks about nature and biodiversity loss, drawing on her book 'Love is a Toad', in the Royal Scottish Geographical Society's Inspiring People Talks.
Lucy Lapwing is coming to the University of Edinburgh on Wednesday 17 March, as part of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society's Inspiring People Talks. It's a mid-afternoon one, running from 2:15pm to 4:00pm, so you'll be out well before the evening rush.
Lapwing is a wildlife campaigner and speaker who writes about nature on Instagram and works behind the scenes on BBC's Springwatch. The talk draws on her encounters with wildlife across the UK and on themes from her first book, Love is a Toad, as she explores how people can carry fascination and awe of nature alongside the reality of biodiversity loss. It's that tension she's focusing on — the love we have for the natural world sitting right next to the knowledge that so much of it is disappearing.
It's a talk that fits the RSGS Inspiring People series, which brings together people talking about the world and our place in it. If you've spent any time with her writing, you'll know she's as comfortable with the small, strange things — like the toad in her book's title — as she is with the bigger picture of what we're losing. The session is held in a lecture theatre at the university, though the exact room is still to be confirmed, so keep an eye on your booking for that.

General admission is £15, but it's free for RSGS members, students, and under-18s. You can also buy tickets at the door in cash or by card if you'd rather not book in advance. That puts it from 2:15pm to 4:00pm on Wednesday 17 March at the University of Edinburgh.
